states rights
Another large cause of the Civil War was the disagreement on rights of the States. The northern states believed that for the country to be successful, the needed a strong Federal Government. But the south disagreed. They wanted more power for the individual states, rather than the whole National Government. The southern states also argued that one of the states rights was the right to own and hold slaves. Which also heated up this argument. When the south seceded from the Union, each state controlled itself and acted in an independent manner. The Union continued to be controlled by the federal government.
